Minimalist pic from Gary Molitor
I think this is a good image for a lot of reasons. Color, balance, texture, etc.
It has all the elements of a good, oil painting. Click image for larger size.

Photo Walk
Anna Tao writes:
"A Photo Walk is just as it sounds:you walk around and shoot whatever you see.You can either join a Photo Walk group, start a group, or just do this with a friend.Challenge yourself by going to different types of locations and going at different times of the day to get different types light.I prefer locations that make me have to search for art, like an abandoned construction site or a subway.
When you’re on a Photo Walk, you can see how someone else shoots – such as, what catches their eye, what angles are they shooting from, how are they composing the shot, what settings do they use, and what are they shooting?
After the Photo Walk, share your best shots with each other to see how you interpreted the same location or subjects."

Coffee Lids for White Balancing in a Pinch
Coffee Lids for White Balancing in a Pinch: "Coffee Lids for White Balancing in a Pinch
If you need some quick white balancing for whatever reason, and don’t have a white balance card or Expodisc handy, you can try using a standard coffee cup lid. Photographer Steve Bennet always has some lids lying around in his car, and found that they work as rough white balancing tools.

A Few Words about Photography.
Make pictures, don't take pictures.
Most new photographers should MOVE in closer for the
majority of their photographs.
Frame your subject and keep your eye
in the view finder and on the shutter release.
Try to take pictures using NON-automatic settings.
Get use to shutter and aperature priority settings.
Take a lot of pictures. Take the same ones
over.
You don't have to have an expensive camera
to make good images.
-More later, I'm sure.
